Rabbi Murray Ezring

Dear Friends,

I am honored to be serving as the rabbi of MJCBY. I would like to introduce myself and look forward to meeting you, if I have not already had the pleasure.

In 1978, I was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. During my last two years of training, I was the assistant to Rabbi Alexander Shapiro in South Orange, NJ. Prior to rabbinical school, I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I was born and raised in Rock Island, IL.

Following my ordination, I served congregations in Ocean Township, NJ, Boca Raton, FL, and Charlotte, NC. In retirement, I have served as interim rabbi in Norfolk, VA, Maitland, FL, and Owings Mills, MD.

In addition to my congregational work, I have been active in the wider community. I was a member of the nationally recognized Community Building Initiative in Charlotte-Mechlenburg, NC. I served on the Justice Department’s North Carolina Hate Crimes Task Force and spent 8 years as a volunteer Chaplain with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

As a strong proponent of inclusion, I travelled across the U.S. with Rabbi Chuck Simon, speaking to other Rabbis about Keruv (inclusion).

I have taught at conventions of the Rabbinical Assembly, Women's League of Conservative Judaism, and the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs.

My wife, Barbara Markman Ezring, and I have been married for 52 years and live in West Orange. We are blessed with four children and three grandchildren.

Shalom,
Rabbi Murray Ezring
