Sounding the Shofar

When one attends a Rosh HaShanah Service one of the most moving parts is to hear the sound of the Shofar.

In fact, the very blessing said by the “Baal Tekiah”, (the Master of the Blast), the Sounder of Shofar, states that the Mitzvah, the Commandment, is to HEAR the sound of the Shofar.
Even the Sounder has to hear the sound he or she makes.
The Shofar is one of the oldest noise makers. Noted in the Battle of Jericho when Joshua has the Shofar sounded and the walls came tumbling down.
Sounded along with trumpets in the Bet HaMikdash – the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
During the British Mandate, a Jew would violate British prohibitions and sound the Shofar by the Western Wall. Often being arrested by the British authorities for carrying on our tradition.

After the Israeli Raid on Entebbe the Shofar was sound in NYC near Israeli Navy boats in NYC Harbor for the 200th Anniversary of American Independence on the 4th of July, 1976.
While it is hard to tell the future (unless you’re Madame Marie in Asbury Park) I am confident that the Shofar will continue be Sounded.
