Minyonaires

The Minyonaires program was started in 1970 by then President of the congregation Herman Frigand.  Since Mr. Frigand’s death last year, the group is led by  the Rabbi, Cantor and other members of our Ritual Committee. Of note, Minyonaires is a recipient of a Gold National Solomon Schechter Award for Youth.

For 2012-2013 Minyonaires Shabbats are as follows:

Sept:  15  Oct. 27  Nov. 24  Dec. 15  2013- Jan 12. (possibly 26th instead because 12th is Shabbat Rosh Chodesh), Feb 23 , March 30  Chol Hamoed Pesach
April None  May 18 Final for year.

The Minyonaires is a group of post Bar/Bat Mitzvah students who lead Saturday morning services in the main sanctuary of the congregation.  The group has 60 members and as many as 40 will participate on a monthly basis.  The students lead the service, read Torah and Haftorah and deliver the D’Var Torah.   This unique and special program was started 40 years ago with a vision to keep young people involved in the religious life of the community and to interact and see each other on a regular basis long after their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.  It started with as few as six members and now has as many as 60. They make important friendships which continue into their future.

It is a youth program

Minyonaires offers teenagers the opportunity to participate in services and to have the opportunity to socialize with each other at least once a month.

It is a leadership program

Many of the participants who deliver the D’Var Torah and help lead and organize the group, learn valuable leadership skills which they take on with them into their college lives.

It is a religious program

All the  participants are called upon to lead the congregation in prayer.  Contact Michelle Usiskin  for more information.
