Torah Tutors

Wouldn’t it be great if post B’nai Mitzvah students could pay it forward by helping prepare the next B’nai Mitzvah class? Thanks to Cantor Shana, that idea is now a reality. She has brought back some of the recent B’nai Mitzvah of our congregation and created a program called Torah Tutors. Each of us is paired with a student who is currently studying to become Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah. Once a week, we help them enhance their progress through a mini-lesson by phone, FaceTime, Skype, or in person.  This is in addition to their regular lessons with the Cantor. The Torah Tutors use the skill learned from the Rabbi and Cantor and in Religious School when preparing for our own B’nai Mitzvah to assist these students. Not only is this program fulfilling the tradition of studying in pairs – hevruta, but also it keeps us connected to MJCBY. We hope that our program will blossom into an innovation for future B’nai Mitzvah classes.
